So you have your domain name and you have your new wonderful website. But how are you going to get that up on the brilliant World Wide Web for all your customers to see?
Well that’s where web hosting comes in. You need a service that allows you to basically upload your website onto the internet. In a nutshell you rent space on the internet.
Are there different types of Web Hosing service providers?
There are different types of service providers. The difference in them is usually the level of control you have so you will find various packages that you can choose from. As with anything, shop around for the one that suits you best, when it comes to service providers, it seems control is dependent on what you are paying for the service.
Below are just a few service providers I have elaborated on so you can get a feel for the differences. I haven’t elaborated on all of them otherwise I may start to confuse you but I have listed the majority. If you require more knowledge which I advise, just use your faithful search engine to gather the information on different packages.
Free Web Hosting service – Free being the giveaway word, but like I said previously, you get what you pay for. You will find with a free web hosting service that you are limited to what you can do and you may have advertisements supporting the service provider on your website. You may also not have your own Domain name. Always look at the terms and conditions.
Shared Web Hosting service – Just as the heading states, you will be sharing the server with many other websites, could be a few hundred, and could be thousands. The good news is with this the services that are offered aren’t limited very much.
Dedicated Web Hosting service – With a dedicated web hosting service this means that you will have your own Web server and have full control but you will not own the server that you are using.
Managed Web Hosting service – like anything when you are managed, someone always can call the shots. The web server doesn’t give you full control but only so they can control the level of service they provide which they always aim to give the best quality. You will have your own server though.
Below are a few more but I could go into great detail and do not want to confuse you. If you have the time, look into all of them by using your favourite search engine and decide which is best for you.
Collocation Web Hosting (Collocation means “co-location”. Collocated hosting lets you place your own web server on the premises (locations) of a service provider).
Cloud Web Hosting
Clustered Web Hosting
Grid Web Hosting
Home Server
How much will a Web Hosting cost me?
As with anything when you have a choice, that choice brings in cost. Now if you are starting out then I understand that you do not want a huge initial layout but don’t always go into any contract thinking going cheap to start will be a good move.
As I said above, there is always a service provider but look at the terms and conditions and what you do and don’t get for paying nothing.
You will find that there are budget friendly packages out there for you to choose from but always do what you would do when buying anything, make sure you know what you are getting for your money.
My one bit of good advice is do not sign up with any server for a long period of time to start with. It will be cheaper in the long run but at first just sign up for a little while. Try before you buy, make sure that the service provider is able to meet your expectations. If it does, then sign up for a longer period and save money.
